GOING AFTER A LATROBE DOUBLE: Defending Latrobe Wheel winner Bradley Payne takes to the road after arriving in the State yesterday. Picture: PAUL SCAMBLER.”I think I have improved, obviously I have had an extra year of racing and improved my smartness and strengthening and I think I have matured a lot in a year,” Payne said yesterday.
“I have had a pretty good year with track and road racing and did pretty well at the Australian titles, finishing fourth at the Australian under-23 criterium.
“I have just finished the Summer of Cycling series on the Gold Coast and I was pretty happy with my form and won a few scratch races and placed in a few wheel races.”
Payne said he was hoping to help pay for his and his family’s trip south by taking home some prizemoney during the rich week-long Basslink series.
“I want to win it (Latrobe) again because it is the best,” Payne said.
“The prizemoney is just incredible and then there is the biggest criterium in Australia the next day (the $20,000 Gunns Launceston Cycling Classic on Monday) so it is pretty good.”
