Picture: DAVE TEASESix people have been arrested this morning over a series of gas attacks on ATMs across Wollongong, Sydney and the Central Coast.A 30-year-old man was arrested in Wollongong when detectives swooped on 10 properties, including a unit on Gipps St in Wollongong, at 6.30am today.The police operation follows 13 separate attacks on ATMs across the state, including one at a NAB teller machine at Warrawong on February 2. SLIDESHOW: NAB ATM blown up at WarrawongStrike Force Piccadilly II was established in 2007 to investigate ram-raid style offences involving ATMs, and police said today’s raid was the largest arrest operation undertaken by the strike force.About 80 police officers from the State Crime Command, metropolitan regions, the Public Order Riot Squad, Rescue Squad, and the Special Services Group executed search warrants at 6.30am.They searched a house on Sopwith Ave at Raby, a house on Gambia St at Kearns, an automotive repairer on Bagdally Rd at Campbelltown, and a house on Welling Dr at Mount Annan. Searches were also conducted at a unit on Eaton St at Neutral Bay, as well as a storage facility on Frederick St at Artarmon, a unit on Gipps St at Wollongong, and two houses at Woy Woy on Kingsley and Mascot streets. The six men arrested are a 39-year-old man at Raby, a 25-year-old man at Kearns, a 30-year-old man at Woy Woy, a 30-year-old man at Wollongong, a 35-year-old man at Campbelltown, and a 35-year-old man at Neutral Bay. A number of items were also seized by police during the search warrants, including a quantity of drugs, cash and other items allegedly connected to the gas attacks, as well as a number of vehicles. Property Crime Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Greig Newbery said today’s operation was the largest in relation to ATM gas attacks.”The NSW Police Force is committed to investigating crimes of this nature and is working with industry in the development of technologies to prevent such crimes,” he said.
