Roller-coaster malfunction leaves passengers hanging

Picture: CNNA group of thrillseekers got more than they bargained for when they hopped on a roller-coaster at a Californian amusement park this week.Twenty eight people had to be rescued from Great America’s Invertigo Roller Coaster in Santa Clara when a malfunction left them dangling at a 45-degree angle between 12m and 25m above the ground.Embedded video from CNN VideoFire brigade crews lowered each of the passengers into baskets at the end of aerial ladders, before taking them to the ground.The passengers were all strapped into their seats and no injuries were reported.Authorities are blaming the incident on mechanical failure. The Great America website describes the Invertigo as a “thrill ride” that takes riders “through loops and boomerangs”.
