Earthquake strikes central Japan

More than 40 people were injured when a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck central Japan today.The quake, which struck at 5.07am, triggered fires and shut down a nuclear power plant and bullet trains.The US Geological Survey said the earthquake’s epicentre was about 170km southwest of Tokyo at a depth of 26.8km.The quake shook buildings and jolted people from their sleep in and around Tokyo, which is bracing for the predicted arrival of Typhoon Etau later today.
