Gwynneville mum, 24, faces court over baby’s murder

A mother has been charged with murder over the death of her 17-month-old daughter at their Gwynneville home three weeks ago.The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged yesterday morning and later appeared briefly in Wollongong Local Court. Details about how the woman’s daughter died were not provided to the court.However, the Illawarra Mercury understands the child’s body was found at the home on July 21 by emergency services.It is believed the child’s death was not as a result of violence.Yesterday morning, police charged the child’s 24-year-old mother with murder, alleging the act took place sometime between July 20 and July 21.Several members of the woman’s family, some visibly distressed, were in the court gallery to support the woman. She did not apply for bail and will be held on remand until her next appearance on September 23.Magistrate Paul Johnson ordered a brief of evidence to be served by the woman’s next court date.
